2nd 9 weeks assignment 13

14. Go into your blog and copy one photo from YOUR “portraits” assignment. Give an honest
critique of that photo. Are you happy with it? If so, what do you like? If not, what would you
change? Is there anything you could improve upon?

This is my photo for portraits, I like it a lot, but I feel like I should have dodged and burned some of the distracting elements in the background of the image.

2nd 9 weeks assignment 12

13. Search the internet and find 10 different portrait. Write a short statement as to why you were
attracted to each photo.

I selected this image because I thought it was pretty creative, it has a one color, which obviously attracts the eye, and it really helps the photograph work.

This photo has nice shapes, like the ones across her face by the shadows on the fan.

This photo has a very specific center of interest, which I think is the girls eyes. Also It is shot from above to give her a more feminine look (maybe).

This photograph has very strong eyes, and also it has an interesting pattern because of the freckles.

This photo has a more muted/vintage color scheme, and uses lighting to create shapes and add interest to the subjects face.

I chose this photo because it was a bit different than the others, the rain and the lighting adds some drama to the picture, and adds some contrast as well.

This photo was also taken in the rain, but some sort of light is used and he looks like he is in space, it has a sort of A symmetrical balance to it, which works because of the colors used in the lights,

This photo uses a very bronze color scheme, and she is looking out of the frame and is not centered.

This photo uses texture and lines to make the image more interesting.

This portrait has very strong eyes, and It works because the colors in the eyes are almost identical to the colors on the necklace.

11. What makes a great portrait? There is no one right answer to this, but you will certainly have a
few ideas of an approach that is right for you.

I think that a great portrait is probably a candid one, or one that is taken without the subject being fully aware of the photographers presence.  Sometimes portraits with the subject looking at the camera can be powerful, however most of the time it looks really fake, like, no one is that happy.  A great portrait is a combination of lighting, facial expression, and body position.

3. Search the internet and find 5 photos that utilize “rule of thirds” in different ways. Write a short
statement as to why you were attracted to each photo

I chose this image because It utilizes the rule of thirds and It sort of contains a story within the image. Also it is in black and white so it is automatically deep and meaningful.

I chose this image because it really captures your attention with the textured sky and use of the rule of thirds on the horizon line.

I chose this image because it uses a warm color scheme which really attracts the eye to the image and it utilizes the rule of thirds with the heron and the whiteness of the Heron helps attract the eye to the subjects.

I chose this image because it utilizes the rule of thirds and a complementary color scheme.

This photo uses the rule of thirds along with a splash of red to add an interesting subject to the photo.
